Retired priests call Rutherford home | Faith Matters

At 99, the Rev. Joseph Coda, the oldest priest in the Archdiocese of Newark, now can watch baseball on TV with the 19 other retired priests who live with him at St. John Vianney Residence in Rutherford.

Each of the retired priests has a living room, bedroom and bath.

The Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, now called, Sharing the Blessing, raises funds for the Rutherford residence and a second, smaller residence in Caldwell, which houses 12 priests.

He served three Jersey City churches: St. Paul’s, Greenville; St. Nicholas; and St. Anne’s in the Heights, where he was pastor before he retired in 2011.
